Description

Build your own DuraNode Simplex 70cm FM Allstar Node with this hardware kit.

Photo shows the kit as it comes. this kit requires assembly – last 2 photos show a fully assembled node just so you can see the finished product.

This is a hardware kit that includes MY CUSTOM VERSION OF HAMVOIP SOFTWARE PROVIDED ON THE MICRO SD CARD. This is a game changer in the world of Allstar as no other kit supplier provides this.

LET ME EXPLAIN.. In this kit you get: A mostly configured custom version of Hamvoip software already written to the Micro SD card including a custom Supermon Dashboard already installed. Plus all of the tricky configuration settings have been pre-configured. Also you receive access to comprehensive online assembly and configuration instructions/videos that steps you right through from assembly to the final configuration and testing of your node.

This Node is a Raspberry Pi based AllStar RF Node using the AllStarlink network.

The DuraNode is similar to the traditional “hotspot” in that it runs on a Raspberry Pi with an RF hat, and is connected to the AllStarlink network via the internet. The only difference is that the hat uses an FM radio chip, hence no need for a digital radio.

Any FM transceiver with CTCSS that operates in the ham bands can access the node.

DuraNode Simplex FM Node hardware kit:

This is a ham construction kit designed by VK4NGA that is a Raspberry Pi based AllStar RF Node. This kit is to suit the Raspberry Pi 3B/3B+ or 4B series.

Assembly Skill Level: Intermediate – only 2 solder joints required on the bottom of the Raspberry Pi board, plus PCB to case assembly.

Computer Skill Level: Somewhat Advanced – SSH ACCESS IS HOW YOU FINALISE THE NODE CONFIGURATION. Also the node has to be connected via Ethernet for configuration setup, but I do provide excellent instructions!

Kit Contents:

Genuine VK4NGA DuraNode Ver 1.2 UHF FM RF Hat – Programmed (and tested) with a default frequency of UHF – 441.250MHz with 91.5 CTCSS – these parameters can be changed by you via SSH access.

Custom Australian made VK4NGA acrylic case kit to suit the Raspberry Pi 3B/3B+ or 4B with screws/washers/nuts.

Hex key to tighten case screws.

Set of 4 silicone stick on feet for the case.

USB to Hat connector cable to connect the hat to the Raspberry Pi – goes between the PCB’s and is soldered to the underside of the Pi.

Rubber USB port blanking plug.

SMA stubby antenna.

Heatsinks for the Raspberry Pi processor.

Quality class 10 Micro SD card.

Ferrite filter for the PSU.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUPPLY:

A Raspberry Pi 3B/3B+ or 4B 1gb – Other Raspberry Pi models won’t fit in the case.

A power supply, I recommend the genuine Raspberry Pi PSU.

Core Electronics in NSW are a trusted supplier.

The kit comes with access to my comprehensive (worlds best – in my opinion) online build and software configuration instructions.

  1. Tony Cuffe (verified owner)

Had a Raspberry Pi 3b lying around so I thought it would be great if I could create an AllStar Repeater/Node so I could use some of my handhelds to connect with. Glenn’s solution was perfect. It all works as expected and the instructional video was brilliant. Make sure you watch it first all the way through before starting. You won’t regret it.
